Dear Readers,
As mentioned in my first post that we will explore various career options available after passing out from the school i.e. after passing out 12th examinations. Here is my next post focusing on the career options available in the field of Media, Mass Communications, Journalism, Advertising & personal relations.
Fast advancement in science and technology especially in Information Technology has given a big boost to the field of Media, Mass Communication and Journalism. In last 10 years it has been able to earn huge recognition due to revolution in internet & satellite communications and efforts by many Institutes and Universities to add professionalism to different areas of mass communication by offering a number of specially designed professional courses.
Currently the field of Mass Communications and Journalism has grown to great extent in terms coverage area to include very closely related fields of Media & Mass Communications, advertisement and public relations. Almost all kinds of organizations are availing the services, offered by these industries whether Corporate, Government or Political.
This is an encouraging sign for those looking for a career in mass communication. This career is attracting more and more people in different areas of mass communication. If you are creative, dynamic, enterprising and has a flair to express your ideas, thoughts and observations through different mediums of communication. Then a career in Mass Communications and Journalism is for you.

Here are various career options in media and mass communications:-

1. Print Media Journalism:
In includes Newspapers, journals and magazines that always have been a major source of news and information for majority of people throughout the world with daily circulation and readership of trillions of people. The newspapers and magazines today cover a wide range of specialized sections like political events, business news, leisure, cinema, sports, career, health and so many other subjects, which demands for professionally qualified journalists.
2. Electronic Media Journalism
Electronic media and especially Internet has emerged as major source of news and information in last 10 years. Communication mediums like television, radio, audio, video and the internet  has made possible news, entertainment, information, education related subjects reach the very far and wide places and that too in fraction seconds.  With the growing network of TV, satellite communication, cable services, radio stations, etc., the future of this industry seems quite bright. Electronic journalism offers opportunities to the qualified youths in the fields of direction, production, camera, graphics, editing, sound, program research, script writing etc.
3. Film and TV production
Here you can choose from the available options from technical professions like directors, producers, sound men, light men, cameramen, editors, to artists like actors, dancers, musicians, stuntmen etc.
4. Advertising
This is the most glamorous and lucrative aspect of the mass communication. From newspapers, magazines, posters, signboards, hand bills in the past to the commercials on radio, television and even Internet in the present scenario the advertising has tread a long way. In today’s competitive globalized market almost every business organization, political organizations, or for that matter social organizations too, all find it important to advertise in order to influence public opinion. With the advent of the multinational companies in India more and more Indian agencies are roping in foreign agencies to hunt for international clients making it clearly indicative of high growth in coming years in mass communication industry.
5. Public relations
As the name suggests public relations is used to generate and portray a positive image of an organization by different means of communication. Due to high level of competition and almost level field to play  most of the Business houses, schools, universities, hospitals, government institutions and even political parties and political leaders etc. engage specially qualified highly  and acclaimed  public relations personnel’s and agencies to cast and present their image, objectives and policies in the best possible manner to an edge over the otherwise equally competent competitors which has made this  simple operation of publicity into an important management function. Thus person having  a liking to meet people along with excellent communication skills, ability to interact with, convince people, and build a rapport can look forward for an exciting and successful career as a public relation consultant.
As far as remuneration or pay scale in this ever emerging and lucrative field is concerned it varies from one area of mass communication to another besides depending upon the size and  level of the  particular organization one is working for besides the  concerned professional’s responsibility,  importance and expertise in the organization. However, it is sure that a dedicated and hard working professional can make his fortunes well above his logical expectations.
There are many media institutes in Delhi and other states offering quality educations in above areas. You can go for programs like Bachelor of Mass Communications (BMC), Master of Mass Communications (MMC), PG Diploma in Mass Communications (PGDMC), PG Diploma in Advertising and Personal Relations (PGDA & PR).
